Dermal Fillers

Injectable dermal fillers help smooth out wrinkles and enhance the face’s natural contours by softening creases and adding volume to the face.

Dysport® (aka Wrinkle Relaxer)

Injectable neurotoxins help soften your expressions, provide smoother skin texture, and greatly reduce facial wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the corner of the eyes.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filler injections are a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure designed to enhance your appearance. A healthcare provider injects these fillers just beneath the skin, plumping wrinkles, smoothing fine lines, and restoring facial volume.

Many individuals opt for dermal fillers to accentuate their facial features or achieve a more youthful look. This treatment typically takes less than thirty minutes, with minimal recovery time required. Results are immediate and can last from several months to a few years, depending on the specific type of filler used and the area treated.

You may choose to get dermal fillers to:
  • Make your facial features more symmetrical
  • Plump up your lips and cheeks
  • Smooth wrinkles and creases in your face

What are the different types of Dermal Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a sugar naturally produced by the body. This naturally occurring substance provides volume and hydration to your skin. As we age, our production of hyaluronic acid decreases. Typically, the results from hyaluronic acid injections last anywhere from six months to a year, with Restylane® and Juvéderm® being well-known brands of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is a dermal filler derived from a substance naturally found in bones. The results from CaHA fillers typically last about a year and are often used to treat deeper wrinkles. Radiesse® is a popular brand of CaHA dermal fillers.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) fillers contain collagen and small microspheres that remain under the skin after injection. These microspheres assist in maintaining skin volume and firmness. An example of a brand name PMMA dermal fillers is Bellafill®.

Bellafill®, a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) filler, is an outstanding option for effectively diminishing the appearance of smile lines and acne scars without the need for surgery. The filler works by stimulating collagen production in the skin, which helps to restore volume and smoothness, creating a more youthful look. Patients can expect significant improvement in the depth of their smile lines and the texture of their skin, leading to increased confidence and satisfaction with their appearance.

Key Benefits: As a collagen-based filler, it provides instant volume while encouraging your body’s natural collagen production over time.

Expected Results: Enjoy beautiful outcomes that can last up to 5 years!

How does Bellafill® Work?

As illustrated in the graphic, Bellafill contains tiny polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres mixed with a smooth collagen gel. The collagen in Bellafill provides immediate volume and lift for results that you can enjoy as soon as you leave the office. Over time, the collagen is reabsorbed while the PMMA microspheres are left behind. They create a supportive base that allows more of your own collagen to develop, resulting in smoother-looking skin in the long term.

Juvéderm®, an hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, is specifically designed to add volume to various areas of the face without the hassle of surgery! Different formulations are approved for volumizing the cheeks, smoothing smile lines, addressing lines around the mouth, plumping the lips, defining the chin, enhancing the jawline, and improving the appearance of undereye hollows.

Key Advantages: This filler offers a long-lasting effect, maintaining a natural look and feel. Its formulation ensures a smooth application, blending seamlessly with the skin for optimal results.

Expected Outcomes: Patients can expect results to last one to two years, depending on individual factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and the specific areas treated.

How does Juvéderm® Work?

Juvederm enhances facial tissue volume by utilizing its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. Hyaluronic acid promotes the production of collagen.

During the procedure, a medical professional begins by marking the areas to be treated with a pen. They will then inject Juvederm into the targeted areas and lightly massage the area to ensure even distribution and minimize swelling. The entire procedure typically takes between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Radiesse® is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. It is specifically designed to address moderate to severe facial wrinkles and restore volume in areas such as the hands.

Key Advantages: This filler stimulates collagen production, leading to long-term improvements in skin elasticity and structure.

Expected Outcomes: Patients can expect the results of Radiesse® treatments to last up to 18 months, making it a reliable option for those seeking both immediate and sustained rejuvenation.

How does Radiesse® Work?

Calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, is what sets Radiesse apart as a dermal filler treatment. Radiesse consists of CaHA suspended in a gel carrier. When injected, the Radiesse CaHA gel matrix provides immediate results. Similar to Bellafill injections, it creates a “scaffold” that stimulates the production of collagen for up to a year and, unlike Bellafill, elastin for up to nine months.

Restylane®, a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, is specifically designed to enhance lip volume, diminish under-eye hollows, and smooth out facial lines for a more youthful appearance, similar to Juvéderm® fillers.

Key Advantages: This versatile filler line offers various formulations tailored for specific areas of the face. Whether you’re looking to achieve fuller lips, jawline, or chin, there is an option suitable for your needs.

Expected Outcomes: Patients can typically expect results to last between 6 to 12 months, depending on the treated area and individual factors.

How does Restylane® Work?

Restylane adds volume beneath the skin where collagen and tissue have diminished, helping to smooth and lift it fook plumper. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane binds to water, enhancing volume and preserving it.

The procedure is simple and usually takes place in a doctor’s office with local anesthesia to minimize discomfort. During the procedure, a medical professional begins by preparing the injection site. They will then inject Restylane into the targeted areas with an ultrafine needle. The entire treatment typically lasts from a few minutes to half an hour.

What are Neurotoxins? (aka Wrinkle Relaxers)

Neurotoxin injections, such as Botox® and Dysport®, are safe and effective treatments designed to temporarily relax the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. These prescription injection treatments target fine lines and expression-related wrinkles, helping you achieve a smoother, refreshed appearance. Unlike dermal fillers, which add volume, neurotoxin injections work by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, preventing them from contracting. This reduction in muscle activity softens the appearance of lines caused by repetitive facial movements, such as frowning or squinting.

You may choose to get Dysport® to:

  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
  • Maintain a natural, youthful look
  • Address certain medical conditions, such as
    • Chronic migraines
    • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
    • Muscle spasms or twitching

Discover the Power of Dysport®

What is it best used for?

Dysport mainly targets glabellar (the area between the eyebrows) lines. It may also be used to treat severe muscle spasms in the neck, calf, elbow, wrist, or fingers.

How concentrated is the injection? Does it diffuse?

Dysport is more diluted than other neurotoxins like Botox and spreads throughout the targeted area.

How long do the results last for?

Dysport can last about three to four months.

How long does recovery take?

There is technically no recovery time after a Dysport procedure since there are no surgical wounds to care for. However, for the first 24 hours, avoiding scratching the injection site, applying pressure or heat to the treatment area, using a sauna, or engaging in any activities that cause excessive sweating is advisable.
